craftgrrl | type of paint?

This is a question about paint! I have a few things I would like to paint and I need to know what kind of paint to use...

I went thrifting the other day and I found this plastic cube thing. I thought it would be fun to use as a tiny little shelf. The color theme of my room is black and red. I want to paint this plastic cube black... What kind of paint should I use?

I got this owl piggy bank from Urban Outfitters last year. I have a thing for birds/owls, so I had to get it. Last year my room was purple/green and this didn't match then, either, but I am finally getting around to painting it. I want to paint it red. It's like... I'm not sure what it is. It's not porcelain... but it's kind of like that. Only not as delicate. (Haha, I'm clearly awesome at this...) What type of paint should I use to paint this?
