I'm looking to repurpose an old Ikea TV stand (pictured here...I can't find it on their site otherwise I'd link that). Anyway, it's their "birch veneer" and I want to paint it some undetermined bright color and turn it into toy storage and a play surface for my daughter. Is spray paint going to just chip off? Should I sand it to prep it? Should I use acrylic paint instead? And I plan on not letting her chew on it, so I'm not concerned because of that, more just that the paint's going to flake off as soon as a toy car gets driven on it, you know?
