For your Wednesday

So we got these really nice grass green Dupioni silk placemats from my mother in law, right.
Unfortunately, being bright green, and silk, they got stained very quickly, and when I washed them the silk top shrunk, while the cotton bottom did not.
~Yeah I know you dry clean dupioni silk, but I do not dry clean table linens. Sorry. Nope.~
And the stains didn't even come out.
But, they were still a nice color silk, and, silk is always nice....
So I kept them around for a couple years to be parted.
Until one fair day I decided to just tie dye them and use them as they were made, as placemats again.
They had been wadded up in the corner of my fabric closet for a while, so an ironing was necessary....

I folded them into fans, and then tied them off with twine.

Then I threw them into a black dye bath with some other items I was also tie dying (I also did some fabric napkins, and a silk dress)
~After drying~

And since the top layer and bottom were still different sizes, and I hate it when place mats bag open like an old pillowcase, I discretely top stitched along the dye lines. Green one way, black another.
They should last a few more years now, and one less thing knocking around in my 'part out' pile.

I like em better this way to be honest.
They have a rustic bamboo feel to them, which goes really well with my Asian themed dinner area.
Plus, no stains......
Ok, bye now!
