Oct. 5th, 2003 12:01 amI've got a tweed hat I want to be black. It's 60% wool 40% viscose (rayon). I tried dyeing it it with Dylon cold water dye, using boiling water as advised on the packet (yeah, it shrunk a bit but I was anticipating that). Now it's a dark charcoal grey. I'm not going to dye it again (at least not using the same method) as I don't want it to shrink any more, and I think it's the 40% viscose that stopped it going completely black.
So my question is: how do you think fabric paint would work? I read on a newsgroup a while ago that you can get special dye from florists that works well on certain acrylic fabrics. Any experiences with this? Anything else at all any of you can offer? If not, anyone know how to make a cloche hat?
