Oct. 19th, 2003 09:48 pmI'm making a quilt and I need moral support. The last time I made one I was about 13 and it was for some two inch tall teddy bears, so the quilt was 3"x5". The one I am working on now is for my daughter's birthday and is substantially larger. No big deal, except I have a weird sewing machine phobia right now and I have been sewing the whole thing by hand. Am I crazy, or am I ever gonna finish this thing??? (Hopefully before November eighth.)
This is my design.

The funny part is that it took me THREE days to come up with this totally simple diamond pattern. Then it took another day of half-assed algebra to figure out how big the squares should be. Once I accomplished that I cut out all the pieces and sorted them into bundles for each seperate diagonal column. Another funny part is how I labelled them on the design:
pt= purple triangle
pd=purple diamond
bt=blue triangle
bd=blue diamond
It's funny because I am only using TWO fabrics, and I would have to be completely mental to mix them up, but whatever. I like to be really, really organized.
The quilt is going to match this upolstered toychest I made for my little girl in the spring. The purple is from a crushed velvet bedspread, and the blue is the adorable jungle animal print, which is a cotton/polyester blend of some sort. My MIL gave it to me, so I'm not sure. But it was free, so what the hell!

So far I have sewn the triangles & diamonds together into diagonal columns, and tonight I sewed my first two diagonal columns together. I started with one of the two shortest seams, of course. Ha ha. Oh, did I mention that the sides of the diamonds are a foot long? Seriously, this is going to take me the rest of my life.
