Knitting Folklore
Oct. 25th, 2003 05:40 pmThis is crossposted...sorry
Okay. I am taking an intro to folklore class at college. I chose to learn about knitting folklore.
Folklore includes stories, ways of doing things, superstitions, etc. It exists largely in oral traditions, particularly in the variations of a similar story among a group of people.
So, I'm looking for you stories about knitting. How did you learn? What stories have you learned? What are your traditions? GIMME DETAILS!
More importanly, I am wanting to explore the transition that knitting culture has experienced and is experiencing. Knitting might have meant different things to our parents and ancestors.
I'd like to know your location. Regional differences are important.
MOST IMPORTANT: I will need you to agree to a waiver. This waiver, which I do not yet have, basically says that the things you say are free to be archived in the University of Oregon Folklore Archives. More on that later.
