Japanese Temari Balls

Recently someone inquired about ideas for Christmas ornaments. Temari balls make beautiful ornaments and great Christmas gifts -- especially if you can find a pretty silk covered box to put it in.

I snapped a quick pic of some of mine that I put in a bowl on my dining room table:

If you do them for Christmas gifts then just coordinate Christmas colors. The base is a wrapped styrofoam ball. You can slice the ball in half, scoop out a space and put a jingle bell in it before you wrap it with the base color thread so you have a jingly ornament. I've given some as gifts and people can't believe I made it.

They are a bit time consuming, at least some of the more complex patterns.

If anyone is interested, I can post some instruction books that you can find at your local bookstore. Also, you can google "Temari Balls" and there are instructions there, as well.
