Mini-card purse tutorial
Here is my first-ever tutorial (gasp) on how to make a playing card purse.
This is the link that someone on this board gave me and what I loosely based my own on.
Rounded card purse You can go here if you don’t like the design of mine. This one also has a pre-purse picture that might give you an idea of how to attach it since I don’t know how well I explained it.
Here is my best attempt at a tutorial. It would have been smart to take pictures as I made it but I honestly didn’t think about it.
Supplies:
*Deck of playing cards (I used mini)
*packing tape and/or duct tape
*lining (I used sticky-back felt)
*laminating paper if you want to make it a little cleaner looking then just the packing tape
*cardboard or poster board if you want it thicker. Mine was thick enough but it depends on what you will be using it for.
*material for the handles: I used 4 3/16” eyelets and grosgrain ribbon
1. Use the cards to lay out and design your purse. Make sure the height of your sides equals the height of your front and back (duh, but I just don’t want anyone to assume anything.) This may require cutting the cards. And of course make sure the width of the bottom is how you want it and equal to the width of the sides. Also may require cutting. For mine, I used the card turned on its side for the width of the purse, and then a card and a half for the bottom.
(This is the layout for mine using the mini-cards.)
2. The other tutorial suggests using duct tape to put the purse together, but I didn’t have any at the time so I used clear packing tape, which worked fairly well.
3. You should have 4 pieces laid out if you do it like mine.
4. Get your tape and begin to attach the cards together. Do one piece at a time.
5. I laid out several long pieces of packing tape on cardboard, sticky side up, and then began attaching cards, the side you don’t want to show on the sticky side.
6. Do this for each of your 4 pieces.
7. Trim the tape so you have a clean rectangle.
8. If you want to use something else to make it stronger do that here.
9. Before you put it together cut your lining for each piece. You’ll have to trim it later to have it fit tight but at least you’ll have a head start. Don’t put the lining in yet.
10. Now lay your pieces out and begin attaching. Can’t really explain this. I attached on the inside of the purse because I knew it would be covered up by the lining. And because I had already done the laminating part on my good side. But I would suggest using tape to attach both on the inside and outside because my corners suck and I think this would have fixed it. Then you can laminate it later.
11. You should have a box at this point. If it’s secure you can go ahead and attach your lining.
12. Then I put two eyelets on each side and ran ribbon through it for a handle. But you might think of something better.
That’s it! I feel like this is the most rambling, sucky tutorial ever but I tried! If you have any questions/comments/complaints let me know! Good luck!
