silver pendants, part 1382954398
Jan. 1st, 2003 11:23 pmso i got commissioned by a friend to make some jewelry for her to give as gifts to her family this christmas. this is what i came up with:
(apologies in advance for the crossposting)
forgive me for my poor-quality scans; digital pictures don't come out much better. someday i'll be able to get professional pics done, but for now it's scans. :)
all pendants are solid fine silver (.999 silver), except for the beads, which are not solid, but hollow.
the pendant below was for my friend herself - she commissioned something as an xmas gift to herself. she's a writer, and is fond of birds.

this pendant is for her boyfriend's mother, who happens to be someone of whom i'm also fond. the words are a quote from Thackeray which read, "Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children." there is a lotus flower in the middle; the woman's name is Lotus.

this pendant is for my friend's sister, who likes travel and exotic things. the scan's not great, but it's a Tibetan Tara image that is made to look a little worn, traveled, and faded. in the corner is a postmark that reads "Lhasa, Tibet".

this is a pendant for her mother; it's a detail from a famous Japanese woodcut, of a tsunami wave. i added the moon in there, and distressed the silver. the (unfortunate-looking) color you see there is actually an iridescent raku glaze - the scan captured an ugly color, but imagine that in real life it's that same smoky oilslick color you see on Raku pottery. it really is, i swear!

these are a pair of handmade matching beads, one roundish and one ovalish. i etched swirly designs into the surface around the flower applique on the front of each bead. they are strung with real aquamarine beads and silver heishi discs. they are a matched pair, going to a mother and daughter.

that's it! gotta get more silver and get back to the bench - i still have another commission to finish! :)
