Glowing Dancing Costumes
Feb. 2nd, 2006 04:28 pmI haven't been able to photograph any of the new things I have made recently so here as some pictures of some costumes I made a while back.
I used to dance on stage in trance clubs with a dance troupe called Sirenz and I was also one of the three official seamstresses.
This is the original design I was given for one of the costumes i was to create and then it was up to me...

This costume began as a waistcoat and trousers with flame patterned legs, waist band and collar but was later converted into a shorts and leg pieces as they were more practical for dancing in.
It is entirely made from scarlett, orange and yellow cotton drill, the flame patterns are all padded with foam backing for a 3 dimensional effect and edged with uv reactive piping that was hand made in matching lycra fabric then sewn on by hand which took forever!
Here's a couple of pictures of the final costume being worn in one of the clubs we were dancing in...

We had the most amazing hair pieces made for us by one of the other Sirenz
The costumes are extremely uv (black light) reactive so we can be seen across even the most crowed club and the effect is quite amazing when there is all six of us dancing together.
Here is a photograph of the costume in the uv light, the hair pieces glow too!

The second costume I made was mine. It was designed as a v-necked top with sleeves made of three sections and a skirt of two long panels (back and front) with flame pattern straps down each side.

I modified the original design during the cutting and fitting into something I was more comfortable with and would be better to dance in.
The top became assymetric with only one sleeve and the straps on the skirt were removed for ease of movement. Leg pieces were added to wear under the skirt to match the other costumes which you can see on the Sirenz website.
Me dancing on the podium in my costume (I helped with the back drops too)...

The skirt and leg pieces were made from the same cotton drill as the first outfit was and the top was made from stretch lycra.
Its difficult to see from this picture but the arm bands are atactched to the top bu a strip of red tape running along the inside of my arm.
Here's me looking hot and knackered after a night's dancing...

Me in my costume under the uv (black light), you can see more of the back drop here which is glowing away behind me...

Thanks for looking, I hope you liked them.
