Pocket Shrine

I just finished my first project!!

This one has been in progress for a few weeks. It was just a spray painted mini Altoids tin that I had no plans for. A few days ago it began the transformation into a pocket shrine. Though it didn't take me much time to plan it out once I had the idea, it took longer than I thought to get it together. I used Modge Podge and had the thing sitting on my desk which is in front of my super drafty windows so it didn't dry quickly at all. I later moved it.

I couldn't get the picture for the inside to the right size and couldn't think of anything to put around it to cover up the silver metal so I slathered on some MP and dumped black glitter on it. After that was dry (took a day) I put on more MP and let that dry. Then I put the picture and other things on. The rhinestones weren't originally going to be there, but I thought the top looked too plain and monochromatic and then decided to carry the them inside. The broken CD piece was added because I cut up two CDs to see how it worked and needed something in that space.

The shrine is to Cthulhu--probably H. P. Lovecraft's best known creation. I recently got on a Lovecraft/Cthulhu kick so it makes sense for me to have a shrine dedicated to the guy :) My roommate knows nothing about Lovecraft or Cthulhu and when she saw the tin sitting on the table in the living room (one of the places I moved it to dry) she asked and I told her it was a pocket shrine. My roommate is not crafty in the least and has no idea what one is, nor did she ask. She's also pre-seminary. I think she thinks I worship some strange octopus god now :)

I could explain a couple of things (both about the process and Cthulhu), but I'll spare ya'll the details. If anyone wants to know, though, feel free to ask.

The front of the pocket shrine.

The inside.

The "Cthulhu" part was cut out from a different piece of paper. The original was streaked, and I kind of liked the look of this.

And the back.
