Sachets

I got a sewing machine for christmas...I don't actually know how to sew, but I'm having fun learning ;)
I've discovered something pretty easy to do, making sachets.
Sorry, no pictures, but I'll do my best to describe them. Even if you don't have a sewing machine, you could probably hand stitch them.

First of all, you're going to need some fabric. If you're hard up for money, you can look in the sale bins at the fabric store; they'll usually have scraps. I picked up a yard and a half of wedding dress material for $3.00; it's white with a soft sheen to it. I went to Hancock's and they had scrap bits of pretty ribbon tied together for say, fifty cents. Look for a deal...

So anyway, the idea came when I saw a sarah michael's sachet that came with a bath and body package I got a long time ago.

So I took two index cards, placed them side by side (long sides together) on the wrong side of the fabric and traced them. I cut it out, folded it in half and sewed two long sides and a short side of the rectangle, so it looks like a U. I left the top open and folded the edges down inside, filled it with cotton balls (you can add a light smell to one of the cotton balls using perfume or essential oils like I did, but don't overdo it.).
I tied it maybe half an inch from the top with simple white thread wound tightly around, and I took a small length of pretty ribbon and tied it in a bow.
Voila.

The neat thing is that one of the ribbons that I'd picked up was a large, lacy/embroidered looking thing, so I sewed that on the *outside* and now you have a decorated sachet :) Be creative :)
