Just a little thing been working on. As I work in a little Edwardian theatre, there is no air conditioning, meaning in the summer it can get very very hot while wearing our uniforms. So I can quietly cool myself down while sitting inside I started collecting fans and have been pondering for a while about trying to recover one myself. I got a whole batch of cheap ones from work when they given out free at the opera.
It's by no means perfect, being the first time and all. But it's all learning. And I must say I really enjoyed making it. I've a feeling I'll be doing many more!
It used to look like this...or at least similar but red.

And now it looks like this!

I call it Ana!Fan! My friend and I are both lovers of Ana-Matronic from the Scissor Sisters, she's an absolute inspiration and amazingly beautiful.
I ripped off the original fabric and used some stiffened polycotton. I really need to find thinner material though.
I used one of the photos, this one, taken by my friend Kym from the Scissor Sisters gig we went to (we were in the crotch pit, VIP area right in front of the stage!) Originally I wanted the actual photo, tried out some transfer paper but it ended up being too thick. Anyone got any ideas on a way to transfer the image but keep it really thin?

The writing says 'She loves to smoke chronic, she drinks a gin and tonic, she's a little bit bionic' the introduction that Jake Shears likes to give her.

All the black was done using an overhead marker, and the silver with a silver brush pen. I coated the scissors in glitter and then a thin coat of glaze to stop it from coming off.

The sticks were stained with red food dye, I then thinned down some glaze and mixed in a lot of glitter, painted that over and then another layer of glaze just to make it extra shiny and neat.
