First time ever - skirt and purse
For my birthday, my BFF sent me a ton of vintage fabrics she no longer needed or wanted.
I decided that I needed a skirt that was something other than black. Seriously. It's all I wear.
So, I went through the awesome fabrics and found this beauty:

It reminds me of tarot cards, but don't know exactly what they were going for, but I love it, so I turned it into a skirt.
I've never made a skirt before, but I had a tutorial on how to make a simple circle skirt.
It wasn't as simple as it looked, since I'm not a small girl.
I rigged it up and did what I could, and then I made a purse to match it.
The tutorial I used said to measure my waist and then divide that measurement by 4. I did.
When I made the hole in the fabric, it was huge. So, instead of putting a waistband of a the black and white fabric, I just added a drawstring. Which is okay, since I am losing weight, so I can actually pull it tighter as I lose weight...
But the problem: I didn't have a drawstring. So I used yarn.
After I cut the length of the skirt, because I'm a big girl, it wasn't even all around. So I used a bit of the black and white vintage fabric (also sent by my friend) to cover for my errors.
In the end, this is the result:

(Pardon my pants and slippers... I'm comfortable and didn't want to change, so I'm modelling over what I'm wearing because I'm just that awesome).

And then, because I had this HUGE circle I'd cut out of the fabric, I decided to turn it into a purse. I cut a second hole, sewed them together using some method I'm sure I could never duplicate because it was 3am and I'm pretty sure I may have been sleep-sewing, and then...

PURSE!

this is what it looks like when it's filled with my junk.

an action shot to show that, even though I didn't measure anything for the strap, it falls at the length I LOVE.
In all, it was a hassle, but I like what I did.
the skirt's a little wild for my personal style (like I said... black is my friend) but paired with a simple shirt, I think I'll be okay.
