Clay Ornaments

I'm a college student majoring in Human Services, and as a part of my requirements, I have a certain number of Practicums to do. This is my last one before I start my Internship. Technically my classes don't start till January 7, so all the time I've spent with the class so far is just volunteering, because I want to. They're a local class that goes to a Technical high school, which teaches trades like Horticulture, Cosmetology, Masonry, etc. while they are juniors and seniors. The class I've chosen to do my Practicum in is a Multi Disabilities class, full of 8 various special needs students. I saw [livejournal.com profile] stephc's posts about the Arm & Hammer Play Clay, and I wanted to make some so bad! I went to a local Menonnite store that has bulk supplies for the baking soda and cornstarch, so it ended up costing me about $ .50 to make an entire batch, and wrap them all up in the bags and tissue paper. I worked on these 2 weeks ago, and finished the personalization, strings, and wrapping today. I figured today was a perfect day since we've had just about a foot of snow fall since Saturday evening. The personalization was done with a green Sharpie, and then I went over that with a glitter green gel pen. It made it look like I used one of those expensive glittery paint pens! I'm very happy with how they turned out. I colored the batch green and made them into trees. I sprinkled clear glitter on them all before they dried, so it looks like they have snowflakes on them.

Here is an individual view of one I made for one boy:

I also made some for the teachers and various other staff members I know from when I went to the school. I can't wait to take them into everyone on Wednesday! I'd definitely make these again next year, they were so quick and easy to do!
