But I know you can do at least some of them at home instead of buying them (though purchasing is easier!). I came across a recipe for dyeing fabric with turmeric and decided to give it a try.

I used this tutorial for a couple of reasons. First, it was easy. Second, we had a jar of turmeric from a time when Toly wanted to try it. Everyone in the house hated the smell and taste, so it's been sitting in the pantry ever since, and this seemed like a good way to make use of the stuff.

( Pix and experience behind the fake cut )

comments

So far, I've only tried turmeric and it turned out great. But I did some searching and it seems that other substances (beets, spinach, red cabbage) do not come out so well - they apparently are very faint, wash out easily, or fade in the sun. I'd like to try plum peel.

comments

So I've decided to make one myself. I've went and bought white floss and dyes. The problem is, I've never dyed anything in my life. I've searched for a tutorial to help, but couldn't find anything helpfull among the thousands of results.

Does anyone among You beautiful people know how to get that effect or maybe has a link to a tutorial? I'd be very, VERY grateful.

Sincerely,
CV

comments
