Rainbow Butterfly "Specimen" Framed Art

I made this for a swap on Craftster and was really pleased with how it came out. :)

I used a combination of card stock and scrapbook paper. The card stock butterflies I folded to bring their wings up, as if in flight. Some of the scrapbook ones I doubled, putting one directly on top of another to give it a 3D effect. Because of the depth of the shadowbox frame, there’s plenty of room for them to “flutter” their wings.

It’s a fun take on a traditional specimen or botanical print. No butterflies are harmed in the making of this one!

Decoupage for jewelry question

This is my first time posting after much lurking. : ) I am wanting to use ye olde Mod Poge to cover flat metal pieces as are used in stamping with paper prints. I haven't done decoupage in *years* and never in this sort of application. Any pitfalls I should watch out for? Many thanks in advance for your help!

Here's yesterday's journal page. I wasn't in much of a productive mood yesterday. So I thought I might as well glue some shit down and slap on some paint. It's always helpful for me to keep the hands moving. I decided to move my scanner out into my art house, which is where I'm at now, and I think I like it out here. Maybe I can slowly get more things out of what used to be my living room and into my art house. We'll see. My art house is already pretty full. Anyway, it's easier to scan my pages as I go than to scan a bunch at once like I did the other day. So here's another one for you. The weather is back to being cold and gloomy here in Lawrence, KS. Which is matching how I've been feeling the past few days. But I'm off to get a massage! So hopefully that will give me a jump start and back on track with my working on my book. Ruby hasn't been feeling well, which is why she looks down in the photo.

food journal collaboration pages

I'm a part of this journal project on get_a_journal there are 6 starters of journals and I am one of them. Each starter has to make pages for another starter, and other people can make pages for your journal.

my journal theme is "My Life In Pictures" There's a bunch of people already signed up to make pages for it. I'm really excited about it because I always have people draw and write in my journals. I've been scanning pages lately. I'll get on that a bit more, of what people have drawn/written for me instead of just stuff I've drawn.

But anyway. I signed up for "A pinch of This and a dash of That" The woman who has that journal project asked for recipes and stories. I've been scanning recipes that are very special to me. Things we eat on holidays and things I love in general!

I cut out 4 pieces of bright colored card stock to get myself started. The requirement was 2-4 pages per person.The pages are a specific size requirement so I figured that out as well. I chose colors that will complement the food well. ha For an obvious example. I'm doing apple crisp, and I put that on the red page construction. chile relleno casserole on a green page :D etc etc.

I've finished, and here are my creations, let me know what you think :D

what are some fun, colorful, FREE catalogues/magazines I can sign up for in the US? I'm trying to get more into papercrafts, and I love to decoupage, so I'm in need of new materials. plus I love pretty pictures.

any help would be very appreciated!

edit: thanks everyone! I am going to be getting a lot of mail in the future :P

I also picked up a copy of CosmoGirl's prom edition - sooooo many colors and patterns and textures! I definitely recommend it.

learning photoshop

I've taken an original sketch and scanned it...now I'm trying to learn how to manipulate the image in photoshop to make it more interesting. I'm thinking I can print it and frame it for gifts or what-have-you. Once I get better with photoshop, I can do the same process with more and more of my artwork.

Thoughts?

Sooo I had a few college viewbooks laying about that I just couldn't throw out. There were so many pretty pictures: many random art pieces, some vivid color shots. But what was I to do with them?

As though a message from the crafty gods, I had just received my latest issue of Craft magazine (<3 <3 <3) --complete with Japanese Stab Binding tutorial, perfect for my paper in need of purpose.

My version is slightly modified to accommodate for some first-time errors.

Collage on canvas

Hello all:) I starting making a collage on my wall of just random things that most people would normally throw away, but for some reason I can't...such as movie ticket stubs, tickets from attractions, certain receipts, and other little things like that. I want to transfer everything to a canvas so that when I move it will be easier to take and I can keep it to treasure forever, haha. So my question is, should I use tape or glue to put everything onto the canvas? I haven't worked with them before so I don't know how it'll go. This is also an ongoing project- I don't have enough stuff to cover the whole canvas now, this way here, I can keep adding to it when I have something new to put on. So tape, glue, or something else to get it all together? Any tips or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Hi, I need help with how to turn a book into a ... just kidding.

What's the best kind of glue/glue concoction for sticking paper together? I use a glue stick, but that doesn't work so well for shiny-sided paper. I go too gung ho with white glue, and that makes the paper wrinkle. I've tried rubber cement, but it doesn't seem to be very permanent. I love the adhesiveness of spray adhesive, but *wheeeeze*. Someone told me they use a white glue and water mixture, but I forgot the recipe. This is mostly for magazine clippings, regular paper, cardstock, other paper products for mailart and collages.

Speaking of mail art and collages, does anyone out there have any online galleries they can direct me to for inspiration?
