So I have a formal event to go to mid-January. My dress is bright red so I'm leaning toward gold for my shoes. However, I really can't find a gold shoe with the sort of style and heel-height that I'm comfortable with. I'm starting to think of buying something I like in everything but color and then somehow spray-painting/dying/whatevering it into the gold I want.

Does anyone have experience with this? What's the best way to go about it? Any shoe material better than others for altering it?
