Crafty Tablecloth Idea - or, Everything is Better with Dingleballs

I made this little "craft tablecloth" for my friend's daughter (for a table I actually made myself, too!) More pictures and instructions here if you're interested in how to make one, though I'm sure you all could figure it out pretty well on your own.

So, I've really been wanting to recover a chair. I don't know why, it just looked like fun. My dearest friend, Lacey, has been wanting a cowgirl chair - complete with cowhide and everything. So, I thought I'd make her one for her birthday.

Quick Dye Job

Ok! Here I go....

My radio station is going to be in a parade Saturday. And, for almost 2 weeks, we've been trying to get some shirts made up with our name on them. Well, I found last night that I have to dye and print up some shirts myself. I have about 10 white shirts (100% cotton) and I plan on dyeing them yellow. Then, I'm going to print up some logos on some iron on transfers, and iron them on the shirts.

My questions lies with dyes. I quickly picked up some "Dylon Permamemt Fabric Dye (in sunflower yellow none the less). When I got home, I started to think maybe I picked up the wrong kind. Is this type ok for 100% cotton? Ideally, I want it to look bright and happy for the parade, and if it can last a bit, that would be great too. I know it's going to fade, I'd just like it to fade slowly. Will this dye work for what I want? I'd hate to go back to Wal*Mart to return it. The nearest craft store is 45 minutes away, and I don't really have time to go there before saturday!

Head start

I've been off work for the last week recovering from knee surgery (with another couple of weeks to go). I've been keeping myself busy getting a head start of on xmas gifts. Here's what I've done so far. Apologies for the poor pics. Limited mobility means I have to use whats i reach.

Tee for a theme party

A friend of mine is having a cowboy themed birthday party this weekend. Yes, he's an adult :P Anyway the invite says to come dressed as a cowboy, cowgirl, Indian, Johnny Cash or a Saloon Girl. I decided on a modified Johnny Cash/Cowgirl theme. I'm wearing black cowboy boots (found on ebay for $5!!), black cowboy hat (yet to be found for cheap), black pants and this shirt:

Rag Rug tips?

Hey all--

I have a huge piece of printed cotton canvas-y material, and I want to make a rag rug out of it. But I have no idea how, and I really don't know how to crochet very well, AND I don't have any of those huge crochet needles. Does anyone know of an easy way to make a durable rag rug?

Day of the Tentacle!

Every once in a while when playing around in Fimo, I'll hit on something that I really enjoy making... and then spend way too much time making the same sorts of things over and over and over again. When I first started to fool around with Fimo, I became obsessed with monkeys. Then it was Totoros, then that obsession evolved into turning out tarantula after tarantula... and now?

Now I'm obsessed with making octopi!

(and it's not my birthday, i'd much prefer a pretty pony, but rather my boyfriend's - and he, he'd much prefer something a bit more diabolical. so i suppose if one is a boy and has to get a doll for one's birthday, at least it's a perfectly evil sort.)

Casting resin and coasters

I've been looking around for coaster-making options. I had trouble finding a coat to go over art that wouldn't be tacky/the finish would be off, and glass is much too expensive. I was talking to a girl at my local art supply store and she suggested I try casting resin. Before I go nuts and spend $45 on a tin of material that might not even work that well, I implore you for any advice/experience with coating things with resin. How well does it stand up to condensation? And will make ink bleed on printed papers?
I just want to make coasters for naked coffee tables everywhere! Help!

for ink stamp embossing can you use a hair dryer as a heat gun?

or is there something special about heat guns, that you need to use one and not a heat substitute like a blow dryer?

The Easiest Makeover EVAH

I found these two vintage portraits at the Goodwill the other day for $US6 and brought them home. I named them "Ed" and "Geri" (short for Geraldine) and hung them in our living room which made them look rather formal. I had all sorts of ideas for how to make them cool, like having an artist friend paint Goth makeup on them or something grandiose. In the end, I finally found what just seemed perfect (AND SIMPLE...) and made my husband and I laugh and laugh and laugh so they're staying.

What are some suggestions to use a brand new, large tire for? I wanted to make something out of it, but am at a loss, besides possibly a table/counter/desk-top mirror, but mirrors are hard to find in that size in a circle...
