What to do with hessian?

To make a long story short:
In my newish flat, my bedroom is next-door-neighbours with the (very audible) bathroom, so one day after discovering some leftover foam sheets, I bought some hessian with the idea of attaching a sort of padded pinboard to my wall to muffle the noise. Unfortunately, it didn't work (and obviously would've been a lot more effective inside the bathroom instead, but it's a flat so y'know.)

So I'm left with about 8m x 1.2m of royal blue hessian (which is also way bigger than I needed for the wall -- estimation = not my strong point :P).

Does anyone have any ideas of what the hell I can do with this shedding, fraying mass of material? I did think of making some cheap little tote bags, but that won't even make a dent... it is the natural stuff, so too itchy for clothing or anything like that.

It's 2 inch high and 2.5 inches across. There are fishies and seaweed tendrils on the sides, seashells on the top (some of the modge podge there isn't quite dry). I have NO ideas as to what i should put in it. My only ideas involve sand and would probably not work anyway. SUGGESTIONS! Please. Have a nice day.

Hellooo.. I'm new. Well, sort of.. I was a member of this community for about a year and a half a while back (more of a lurker than a poster) but decided to leave every community I was in for a while. I'm basically a craft whore. Currently, some of my favorite projects are decoupage, odd pottery, soap and scrub making, and recently.. making sculptures out of random objects, since I'm running low on supplies right now. :) Happy to be back!

My first skein!!!

Hi, I just joined today! I'm very new to spinning and I just made my first skein of yarn and it's over-twisted and kinda uneven (this was mostly intentional), but it's mine and I love it anyway. I know I am officially addicted because I have the first batch of wool roving I purchased predrafted and ready to spin on my kitchen table (who needs to eat?) and am going to order a pound more! This time un-dyed so that I can DYE it MYSELF!! Oh boy, I can 't wait! Yay, yay, yay! Here is how I made my skein and I'd love it if maybe anyone who has done this can give me a few pointers. I think I definitely over-twisted, but if you have any other suggestions I'd be forever grateful.

Getting grease pencil out of fabric?

Boy oh boy am I on top of things today. I was cutting out fabric to make a skirt, and grabbed the closest thing handy (which just so happend to be a China Marker) to label my fabric pieces. Yeah, well, red grease pencil on the back of light pink fabric doesn't look so hot. How can I get it out without destroying the fabric? I can't just re-cut it, because my skirt is already halfway constructed. I was hoping that once I put the skirt lining it the red wouldn't show up so badly... but it does. I already know that soap and water won't get it out... so is there anything I can do? Help!

hello everyone :]

im working on a project of re-doing my comforter for my bed.im gonna get colored cloth and sew it on to each side covering the actual. comforter cloth like how it came.well i was gonna do white but my sheets are bright pink and would show throught so im doing a color.well i was gonna get those transfer sheets and iron on all the designs and things i wanted on it.the thing is yesterday i went to joann's and got them but it has that white fabric on it and i guess when i go to iron it on it would have a white backround on the image i print out and would make a white square/figure if i put it on a colored cloth.what kind transfer sheets should i get so that there is no white backround and i can iron it on to the cloth? any help i would greatly appreciate it :]

i got a sewing machine!!!! my mom just brought it over. it's a brother from walmart. (see my personal journal for pics and deets) she took back a kenmore to sears, i think, and got this one instead, i guess the saleslady swears by them. she's never had a problem with hers and she's had it forever. i would have rather had one from joann with the lessons and stuff, but i think i'll be ok learning on my own, or possibly from a book with good pictures. i'm crafty enough.

we started a project today, but....

i have really crappy scissors. they're just dull.

so she's gonna come over tomorrow and we're gonna make a big orange/pink tote bag. it's gonna be fun!! i'll be sure to post pictures of whatever we come out with.

and since i gotta start out easy, i also plan on making hospital scrubs outta the starchy cotton for work.

bike chains

Hello ladies! Just a lurker here looking for some advice. :)

To make a long, nerdy story short, I have a bike chain that has some rather dorky sentimental value to it. I was thinking about making it into a couple of bracelets or a belt or something, but I don't really have a clue about how to go about it. I've never made jewelry before, and I don't actually own a bike so I've never worked with a bike chain either. Do I have to wash it first or anything to get it, er...unlubed? (wow that sounds dirty) Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? I tried googling and checking the memories here but didn't see anything. Any help would be much appreciated :)

Planning on redecorating my room, and an idea for a rug!

It's ridiculous that it took me 14 hrs yesterday to sew such an extra-short skirt ;). So much time and stress for such a tiny bit of fabric %) ...the lesson learned would sum up to: do not measure your hips to determine the desired length of the waistband at 7:30 in the morning, after 4,5 hrs of sleep, with way too much blood in the caffeine stream ~ else you fuck up and have to resize your garment several times. *G*

nachtalp and MDMA %) . And yeeeeeeees - I should have ironed the skirt after wearing it on a club night before taking pictures, and should have vacuumed the floor before laying black fabric onto formerly invisible bundles of white cat hair %) .
Sorry that the little details such as the pleats in the front and the back are very hard to make out in the pics. I shall try to take new ones under more favoreable lighting conditions asap, promise.

The slouchy PVC socks are DIY, too, btw.
Next urgent task is to repair my collar reading "Süchtig" (= addicted) ;) .

Monster Swap!

Would anyone be interested in doing a Monster Swap?

What you do is make four little monsters, about 4-6" big. They don't need to be elaborate or anything. You could use cloth or other things. You then mail each monster to a different person, so everybody who participates ends up getting four little monsters from different people. I'll be the organiser of it all, and I'm actually making a community so I can keep better track of all this. I'll collect people's addresses and give everyone a list of four people that they should send their monsters to. Please post here if you're interested.

I'm also wondering, would people like to do it with four monsters, or less? ...or more?

Help!

I met my favorite baseball player, Jack Wilson, of Pittsburgh Pirate fame, today, and he autographed my J. Wilson t-shirt. However, he didn't sign it with the traditional sharpie. Instead, he signed with this silver pen. I was too excited to take notice of what kind it was at the time, however, my sister did capture it on my digital camera. Sadly, I cannot figure out the brand from the picture.

Does anyone know what kind of marker this pen is? It's silver, and it had a silver cap. Can anyone give me any information on it? Brand, washability, etc. I don't want my autograph to wash away!

*EDIT* We think we figured out what kind of pen it is, now. A Sanford Silver Coat Marker. Anyone have any experience with washing with these? If not, I think I'm making a trip to the store soon to get one to test out on a shirt.

cleaning wallet

I have a sorta weird question, but I thought you girls might have an answer. I have a Kennenth Cole Reaction wallet that I absolutely adore. It's about 2 years old, though, and really grimey looking. I am trying to figure out how to wash it. It is light colored, a bright blue/white/pink striped deal. It has the typical dirt, etc on it. I am thinking of using a toothbrush, but I don't want the soap to take the color out. Any ideas? Even any home made soap ideas for it?

I thought I'd share a picture of the crochet project I just finished. it's about 20 inches long and I did it mostly to get myself accustomed to this type of crochet so I can branch out and do some tunic, sweater, scarf type thread crochet projects. also, I love doilies even though they're useless :) i've bought them at thrift stores for a couple bucks and used them to customize jackets in the past, but wanted to make my own so now i know how :)

acrylic/textile medium remover?

i looked in the faq-memories and didn't really see anything, also tried google.

anyone got any ideas for cleaning up messups on stenciled shirts...nail polish remover? glass cleaner? something?

i made a few stupid smears (in white paint+textile medium and blue paint+tex. med) and was wondering if there's a way to fix those. will nail polish remover wreck the color of the shirt (orange and light blue)...? i would love to try something.

hm. any help appreciated.

ps. threading the bobbins and stuff is kicking my butt. and i think i have the worst instruction manual ever made. but it's got three languages!!!
