These are the same as my older model except the sewing is a lot cleaner... and the blue one has velcro to hold coins!

I made a wristwarmer tonight. I could have made it longer...maybe I will for the next one. Who really cares?

I made it with this color yarn from Red Heart

Yes I used acrylic yarn and YES I loved it. I happen to enjoy it....

It is my own made up pattern. Obviously inspired by others though. If someone is interested in the pattern, I will write it up.

Hi, this is my first project post.
I'm rather pleased with this piece, but not with my photography. This quilt was made from a Bucilla premade baby quilt in the now out of production Mother Goose collection. I used padded interfacing as batting and white quilted fabric as a backing to hide the stitching and add extra warmth.

I'm doing this as a free hand embroidery for my parents for valentines day. I was wondering how you guys would do the outlines? Before or after you've done the "fill color"? I will probably fill it with stem stitches or split stitches but I'm not sure if I will use the same stitches for the outlines too or if I'll just use running stitches. What do you think?

Thanks, Linda

Hi,
I was wondering if any of you have ever tried to do seminole type patchwork on fussy fabrics such as satin or velvet? I have a a huge trunkload of satin and velvet scraps (some pieces are up to 5m long, and some are only like 40cm long) and I thought it might be fun to make a fancy sexy duvet cover with them. I don't tend to like the "crazy quilt" look which you typically see with satins and velvets, so I'm looking for a more rhythmic and orderly look --- hence seminole.

So, before I try this and learn that it's a headache waiting to happen...
has anyone tried doing extensive pieceing with these sprt of dressmaker's fabrics? Will I just drive myself insane? Cause if so, then I'll probably re-think my plans.

ps: I've never actually done seminole before, but I have sewed for 25 years, so I figure that I'me pretty safe trying something new. Oh, and I do have a serger, which I'll use to keep that dratted satin from fraying.

ps2: http://members.aol.com/neadods/patch/seminole.htm That's an explanation of seminole, in case you haven't heard of it before.

Hi friends, I'm new and you'll have to forgive me, for my keyboard is very unhappy today. :( ANYWAYS, um, I'd lke to think I'm crafty I tend to use arts and crafts as a release, so my room is often covered in glue and glitter and scraps of paper (yum!).

Here are just a few old things... )

Well, thats it for now. I've snooped around here, and you guys are all really creative people. I hope to learn a lot from you all.

a desperate plea for help:

i'm looking to buy a new sewing machine to replace my shoddy brother one. i've had this one for over three years & it's time i set it aside and buy myself high-end sewing machine. so far i've found the alphasew fa653. it's relatively cheap, but has all metal costruction and gears which is great. if you could look at the site and tell me what you think, it's would be greatly appreciated.

or! if you have any suggestions for a sewing machine with all metal constructions and gears (plactis outside casing is fine) that can handle heavy use, please let me know about them. i'm going to use it mainly to make purses & fancy stitches aren't really needed at all. i use materials such as thick canvas, lined with interfacing and often sewing through two or three layers at a time, so something heavy-duty would be great!

thanks in advance.

My roommate and I have been living in the same room now for three semesters (so we're just as crazy as the other), and today while cleaning up our sometimes chaotic room we noticed that we had three colors of duct tape. So after about three seconds of thought we decided to do this to our room. )
It's not finished, but since duct tape is plentiful in dorms and pretty cheap thought I'd put up the pic for other college people as an idea on how to do up the plain walls - if it's okay with the rules, that is!

I know that this would be better suited in a knitting community (and it is crossposted to a few different craft communities), but I love the quick response time here so I thought I'd post here as well.

I've decided to invest in circular needles after knitting some legwarmers for a friend on straight needles. I'm thinking size 10 1/2 or 11, but what size (as in inches) should I buy if I'm mainly going to be knitting legwarmers with them?

Thanks!

In regards to my last post, I didn't even realize that I hadn't posted it to the craft business community like I thought I did. In that format, it WOULD have been appropriate as it was for crafty business correspondence.

Again, I'm sorry...I'll be more aware of which community I click on next time :)

for all of you crafties out there that have done your own tables...

what kind of varnish did you use? what brand specifically and where did you get it?

if you have experimented what came out with the best results?

did you sand your item before you painted/decopauged it?

i DO NOT want to use modge podge... i want something permanent and something that dries evenly and clear and glossy.
i have looked through the memories, please let me know if i have missed something.
i would be eternally appreciative, you guys helped me out with a toilet seat cover problem during christmas and were great!
thanks in advance!

x-posted a little. sorry :)

My best friend is away in France for exchange and a little broke, which must suck- being in such an amazing country and having no money to buy purses (her passion).

Anywho.. I printed off the tut for the 'robot purse' only now when I go to read it do I realize...I can't!
And for the life of me I cannot find it again in the memories.

Link..Anyone?!

Also, I would like to embroider something on it.. Maybe the Eiffel Tower or something? Any sites with good picture instructions on a lot of different stitches? (I cant find one of those either.. I am a SPED what can I say?"

P.S.- Download that song I'm listening to... ITS AMAZING!!!! ELO is amazing and I love you if you know who they are!! (I am also a nerd)

Does anyone have the link for that Book Making Tutorial where she sews the cardboard to fabric and it had a flower on the front when it's all done?

I've been looking for it in the memories but i can't seem to find it.

I updated the web site with some new designs - there are a few bookmarks on the 'Other Designs' page, some new earrings, necklaces and bracelets. All of the new things show up at the end of each page.

I put a picture of my favorite two recent designs on the front page. The web site is REALLY basic right now, but a big improvement over the one-pager I did have up. For all of the thumbnails, there is a much bigger full-size image of the piece when you click on it.

Let me know if you have any questions, or any suggestions for ways to improve the work!!!!

I just got a sewing machine for Christmas, so obviously I'm a little new at it :)
I've got some adorable fabric that I want to make into a skirt, & I'd love to make a pleated skirt, but I have no idea how to go about it.
Anyone got any advice or links or anything that could help me make a pleated skirt?

I want to stain a pair of my jeans a darker color. I was planning on doing a coffee or tea stain, but I am not sure exactly how to go about it. I am leaning toward using coffee since it seems like it will show up more on the jeans.

Does anyone know anything about this process? Specifically I'd like to know the proper ratio of coffee to water and how long to let the pants soak (just a ballpark, since I'll be checking on them).

i need some help!

i want to make a Junior Anti-Sex League style shirt. JASL, as in Orwell's 1984 (in looking for some photos, i found there's a band by the name) but i have never seen the movie version of 1984, i've only read the book. so if any of the other 1984 freaks on here have some sort of screen capture or something to help me see how the uniform has been shown, it would help a lot. i know you're out there...

if not, i need to see it anyway, i'll buy it or something.

i figure i can use a blue button-up shirt and put a patch and sash to go with it, but does anyone know good methods for patches?

thanks a bunch :o)

I've finally started to come out of my my funk with the help of crafts such as:
River Rock Welcome Mat!
(idea stolen shamelessly from Readymade magazine)
it's fast, cheap, and looks way better than that ugly straw mat I had outside!

edit: we used 26 gauge wire from joann's, alligator clips from radio shack, and earring hooks [to attach the clips to the wire] from michael's. thank you for all of the sweet comments.

Crafty Plan

For their birthday, I've decided to make my friend, who shall remain unnamed, a kind of scrapbook on 'how to be crafty' due to their constant remarks on the things I'm always making. I, personally, believe they are very crafty at heart but do not exercise their hidden abilities, they preferr to have a different opinion on the matter. What I need for the book, are some simple crafts that 'anyone' can do, and the dont require much in the line of big supplies, ie. no sewing machines. Knitting mabye, if its really easy. You get the drift, I hope. Anyways, I've looked through the faq and memories, and found some ideas, like record bowls, those cd things posted like yesterday etc. I was just wondering if any of you have any good ideas you like to share, or any good tutorial links, or even good books. Some easy recipies wouldn't go out of place either...

Thanks a million.

A while ago, I remember reading about a two layer heart-shaped cake that's filled with strawberry jelly and when you chop it in half it looks like it's bleeding. I think it was on some wedding-related site and am interested in making it.

Does anyone have the link to it or the steps to make this?
