Despite the title-heading, I have not been making fake cakes, but real ones - yes. Well, one very kickass real one in fact, that was made with a lot of love for my best lady friend, The Crow-lady. Anyone who knows her knows that she is in LOVE with The Mighty Boosh (if you're not in the UK, TMB is a very funny comedy show that you must check out immediately).
So, with this fact in mind, for her 20th birthday, I made her this beauty:

The whole thing is edible, not a single thing un-eatable!
(except the foil base it's sitting on - OBVIOUSLY). ;D

The concept for the design came when I made a mix-CD for another of my friends, and found myself doodling on the front in Sharpie. I had already thought of the Mighty Boosh cake idea, but didn't know exactly what that would entail yet. This little baby was the lightbulb above my head that set it all in motion!

The cake mixture was made with your everyday bog-standard mixture, but instead of just bunging it straight in to the tin, I split the mixture in to 4 bowls, and added a different food colouring to each one; then I added the mixture two the tins as pictured above. ^_^

Oooh, jaunty angle shot!

The whole cake!

When the cake was baked, I covered it in rolled marzipan icing and painted the design on to the icing with CAKE PAINTS! Yes, such a thing does exist - oh the wonders! Before the paints dried I sprinkled on a little dusting of EDIBLE GLITTER! to give the cake that extra bit of wow factor! The VODKA was used in small amounts (like how you use water in watercolour painting, to thin the paint and make it easier to apply), hence why the vodka turned blue from me dipping my brush in it. ;D

Side view!

Edible glitter!! Holy cow - who knew??
