I was given a pile of yarn, much of it variegated, a while back. I was a new crocheter/knitter but I quickly realized that multi-colored yarn is much harder to make look nice than solids, even solids in weird colors. Looking for patterns for variegated yarn on-line brought up lots and lots of potholders. >.>

So, after many trials and much experimentation, I've come up with a few guidelines that might be helpful to other people who find themselves with some 'oh, but it looked so pretty in the store' yarn. So, er, some of my projects and probably more than anyone wants to know about variegated yarn are over here.

I just found this place, and as an introduction I thought I'd post some picks of socks I've knitted. My craft definitely is knitting, although I also do scrapbooking and card-making. I live in Finland, and our winters are long and cold, so I knit socks, mittens, scarfs, beanies, and sometimes bigger things for my family and friends. These are from the last year or so, and they are just a small portion. I don't even remember how many pairs of basic socks I've knitted... Someone always seems to need them :) From some there are two pictures, as an attempt to get a better view of the pattern.

Hello ladies!

Only just discovered this group, loving what I've seen so far. I draw and paint a lot (or I used to, anyway, and I want to get back into it), but my main obsession currently is costume making, mainly CATS the musical inspired, so I figured I'd share some of the arm/legwarmer sets I've knit lately!

so much knitting~ )

And a bonus full CATS costume - my latest one )

I made these earrings recently, my first pair, and I'd like some constructive criticism please! So far all the feedback I've had are "they're cute", which isn't that helpful (but nice to hear!) Knitted earrings (and beaded earrings) are something that I'd like to pursue but I don't know how to make them look professional and not something you make at camp.

My Ravelry page for this project is here and I also posted it on my blog (with a bit more talking to myself because eeeh, Hobbes) here. Friends or followers on either are always lovely!

This was an "I HAVE TO MAKE THAT" project when I saw the pattern, so I availed of my genetics-major brothers birthday to finally make it.  Really happy with how it turned out! (It's also the first big project I've finished in ages! My thesis and studying for finals have been taking all my knitting time in the last few months. :( )

I have finally finished a knitting project! I am awful at finishing things, because I run out of yarn, or forget how to purl, or lose the entire project. In this case I did run out of yarn, but thanks to some help here I managed to track it down again :D

I found this pattern online, from a site that encourages crafting winter items for homeless people and, I have to say, I think it's a winner. This particular one will probably weight a tonne when it's wet, but it's warm, easy to make, and I think using a thinner wool would make it a bit more practical (I can fit this one in my work bag if I take everything else out).

I have to say, taking this photo has given me a new appreciation for those of you who manage to have lovely photos. My webcam doesn't have a timer and my partner was not especially interested in modeling it for me. I'll have to learn to take a camera to my knit 'n' bitch sessions.

Question!

I have some yarn that I bought a while ago, and only have so much of it. It's lovely yarn, beautiful colors and so soft, but I only have as much as I have. Is there a website or something where you can go and say, "I have this much yarn, show me crochet patterns using only this amount of yarn"?

The yarn is Debbie Bliss, cashmerino chunky. Each ball is 65m/50g.

Thanks!

::ETA:: I didn't realize you could search Ravelry by yardage. Observant, me? Thanks!
