Jun. 4th, 2008 03:40 pmHi all, I've lurked on here for a while, but I finally got around to putting these pictures of one of my latest projects online, and I'd like some advice. This is a chair I made for a friend, who is in a medieval reenactment game with me, and while these chairs are about as period as, say gym shoes, they are easy to make (jigsaw, drill and sander). So here are my issues.
A. the stain is really mottled near the Phoenix. I did several coats of the stain, minwax special walnut, all over the chair, and yet where I had to do detail work it glossed in some places and didn't in others. Also, ripsaw marks are not sanded down enough. And I found out that wood putty does not stain. Nor does wood glue or DAP.
B. The bottle opener is wrong side up. (easily fixed)
C. I didn't take any photos of it together for carrying. The seat and the top of the back are the same shape, and there is a rope (it would be leather, but I didn't have the money for that) that goes thru the holes in the seat and back, and then down through the keyhole and around the seat piece, and back up (there are little cleats to hole the seat in place too) so it becomes a backpack style to carry it. I need pictures of that.

So how do I fix the stain problems for next time? The other stuff I just need to do more sanding and realize which way a bottle opener works (duh), but the stain issue I've had on my own chair I made too.
And what do you think?
(oh and if the pics are too big I'll shink em)
