Crochet Learner
Nov. 28th, 2008 11:26 amHi again all, you are always so helpful so I will ask yet another question here.
I am going to try and teach myself how to crochet. I am off today to buy some supplies like hooks. I am planning on using various websites I can to try and get the idea. My mum tried to teach me years ago, but all I ended up with were a bunch of worms (seriously loved crochet worms with googly eyes as a kid). I couldn't get much past the 'casting on' phase. I am determined this time as one day I want to make arigurumi.
Now I have a bunch of yarn that should do me for beginning, you know the cheap stock standard 4ply stuff just about every scarf and hat kids used to get knitted in the 80's was made with. So I have my un-fancy yarn in a generic beginner thickness. I am also a knitter so the fundamentals of working with yarn and needles is within my grasp.
What other supplies should I get? Just hooks? And what sizes? What I'd ultimately like to know is can anyone point me to some good beginner projects? You know that awesome scarf, or something simple like that, quicker the better, so I can practice after I get the hang of a simple square. And hints on what I may need to get for it, I would by all means, love to be sitting here at the end of the day, smiling over my wonky demented looking new crochet project.
Really my biggest worry is getting the wrong hooks >.<
Thanks in advance all, I had looked in memories and got some good ideas, but not 'quite' what I was after
