Dec. 17th, 2008 06:33 pmI cleaned out my crafty area last weekend as it was reaching critical mass once again, and unearthed a bunch of half started projects and items kept for ideas I never worked on. Well I stuck a list in giant sharpie letters on the board in that corner and I've decided I need to motor through those projects before I start anything else. Here's the latest two!
This is from a McCall's pattern that is 4-5 corsets and this cincher. I figured this would be a safe variation to start with as I've never done a corset before. It was easy peasy, if you're looking for a pattern for yourself!

I need to try it on me and get some pics, you just can't cinch dressforms. I bet it will look more shapely on a squishy body. Also, as these projects were "use what you got" projects (ie. no more spendy at Joann's!) the binding was thicker than the actual pattern called for, and butts up against the first row of boning, hence the grommets going right through it instead of beside it.
The runner was made from the remnants of the one and only quilt I ever made (and I was so determined I would never quilt again, that thing took forEVER) - I had all these regular offcuts, enough batting and backing, and this came out pretty much exactly as I hoped. Wavy and freeform! Excuse the threads and ancient table...

I love my serger for its rolled edges, amongst other things:
