(Probably a) dumb hemming question

craftgrrlSo I have this wonderful stretchy fabric. And I'm making stuff out of it, like headbands and a skirt and all sorts of lovely stuff.
But this lovely stuff has to be hemmed. So I get out my sewing machine and hem hem hem away, and then - alas - all the lovely stretchiness is gone!
I have to be missing something really really obvious. How can I hem stuff without losing the stretch?
