Hello craftgrrls! I come to you today seeking

You see, I want to sew a cute swimsuit cover up for my goddaughter and her little cousin-They're both BIG into Ariel this summer and I found what I thought would be the perfect fabric for this. Now, I have their clothing sizes, but don't know how to convert that to inches-They live with their daddies, who don't know how to use a tape measure anymore than I know how to be an accountant (which both of their daddies are accountants, lol). I see my goddaughter usually at least every 6 weeks or once a month, but I go six to eight months without seeing her little cousin, and I'd really love to make a cover up for each of them. I was hoping that as I know what sizes they wear, I would be able to find this online, bu tmy google-fu has failed me and I'm only coming up with children's growth charts instead of how to measure their sizes. Kylie (little cousin) is in an 18-24 month size, and Lydia (goddaughter) wears a big 5 or a small 6 in little girls' clothing. Do any of you know how I would manage this? Could I go to wally world and measure a t-shirt to fit each of them or something?

Oh, and just for the record, here is the fabric:

I thought it'd be pretty simple, you know, cut and sew, but apparently getting the kids' measurements is the hardest part for me!

And a close up of Ariel:
