After drolling over yarn I can't afford I decided to make an attempt at spinning my own. I used the drop spindle in the pic.

I made the drop spindle as per instructions from the site linked a few posts ago. Then I used the instructions from: http://www.handspinning.com/lollipops/spininst.htm adn it went swimmingly.

Here's a closer look.

It's chunkyMonkey as hell but I like it. That's what I can't afford. The thick-n-thin look. I don't have a shop that sells supplies for spinning so I had to make the drop spindle and couldn't find any wool. After remembering a mention of doll hair in Ana Voogs post selling hand spun yarn I thought I'd look in that section and voila! wool doll hair. It cost more than I'd like to pay on a regular basis but for a trial run it was fine. I've soaked it as per the instructions and now I want to get some cotton batting to tear apart and see if that works. If so I'm also going to invest in some kool-aid or food coloring. I think kool-aid is more my speed.

Anyway, I'm also going to, for the first time ever, submit my work for entry with Midcoast Fine Arts. I think I'll take a drive to the fabric store for some batting first so when I have the CD of my work done I can spin some more. Poop. And I was planning on sewing some tank-tops too! Too few waking hours. Must get rid of this pesky job.

OH and if anybody who might read this has any suggestions or this looks all wrong please tell me so's I kin learn!
