Oils???

I was wantin to start xmas present makin/buyin early this year so I wont be goin crazy at last minute like I did last year....I have a question about oils...I wanted to make candles, lip gloss, bath salts and errrr...damn, I forgot what else it was. Anyhoot, they all ask for oil..whether it be peppermint oil, or lavender, or whatever...My question is what oil is it that I have to be buyin. I went to Wally World to get marbles and on the next isle there was potpurri (I probably spelled that wrong) oil in tiny bottles (All kinds, cherry, vanilla, peppermint..etc.)and there was also crock pot liquid in fat bottles...but also there was crock pot oil in smaller bottles (like the oil bottles). Then I went to the dollar store and they have more lil bottles of oil in em...Is all oil the same? And for the edible stuff like lip gloss...is that the oil i get? Id hate to give presents that are nasty instead of lip treats. If im wrong in all of this, where should i go to get it (offline) and what exactly should I be lookin for...as in like, what would the package say?
