My sewing machine is being dumb and I'm not really familiar with sewing machines because usually just do everything by hand. But I need some help!

The thread keeps coming out.. I don't really have a good sewing machine and I just bought it today. I used to have a really nice one [costed at least $200.. very nice] but my house burned down and a lot of stuff in my room was alright, but most wasn't.. and everything inside the sewing machine rusted from the water when they hosed the house down. The one I got today was like 30 bucks at Kmart. So yeah. MAJOR downgrade.

All I want to do is some like, hemming. Nothing major. Here is the sewing machine I have.. maybe someone can help! But yeah, the thread keeps coming out after like three inches of sewing. it's really annoying. If you can tell me what I'm doing wrong that would be awesome. =/ I'm thinking of taking it back and just waiting until my birthday, in October, to ask for a good sewing machine. =\

Thanks!

I thought it about time to share and stop lurking. My crafts aren't as awesome as some of the ones I see, but I still feel they are worth mentioning... so anyway, here they are! Thank you for looking!

 I made a paper bracelet.
Or rather I wrapped paper around a bracelet.
The bracelet itself is actually a white plastic bangle.

Yeah, I pretty much love it.

[Haha, two posts in a row. The Olympics is good for my productivity.]

So I'll explain this one a bit:It was driving me crazy that my earrings had no place to be.
I had them on this plastic Choxie truffle box but it kept falling over, which was annoying.
I saw people dressing up corkboards with quilt batting and fabric on HGTV (a new semi-obsession of mine) but not having any cork tiles handy and really not wanting to spend any money, I decided to use what I had to make a jewelry hanger.
Whoo-hoo scavenger hunt!

I found light cardboard from an old granola bar box, "S"-shaped packing peanuts, and a glue gun.
I also have like ten pounds of lace, so there was plenty of that to use.
Then I scoured my fabrics and chose this:

I linked the packing peanuts in rows and glued them to the cardboard.
Then I pulled a layer of cotton batting and the fabric over the whole thing and glued it down as well.
I fit the square in an old puzzle box (with a cover for traveling).

Didn't cost me a dime and I love how it looks.

Okay. ONE more glass etching question :P

I caved and went and bought some contact paper so although twice the work as originally planned, it will work regardless. The question-Can you use glass etch on mirrors? I don't know if I've ever seen it done and if you have, show me pics!

I had a lot of fun with my new badge-maker last night, and towards the end of my badge-making escapades I even made a few flawless, shiny, lovely, smooth, PERFECT badges. I am currently wearing all of them because... I can. I love playing with new things I've made / bought!

( Please excuse the horrible photos. Really. I'd re-take these two but I badly wanted to upload something, and y'know a girl can only take so many photos in one day, and I think 100 is my limit. )

These are the first ever badges I made with my brand new badge-a-minit button maker. They're 1.25 inches, which visually I can't actually tell apart from my 1 inch buttons.

There's Domokun, because I think his face is perfect for a badge.

Cheese, from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, because he likes chocolate milk and I like chocolate milk - we're made for each other.

Then there's two styles of little girls I made. I dunno why. I guess I just like barettes a lot, and I need something to attach barettes to, so why not some cute girls?

Lastly are some badges for my World of Warcraft guildies. Our guild is Champions of Frostwolf, so now we have official Frostwolf Clan symbol badges.

I had so much fun making them, and now that (I think) I've got the knack of it, I can't wait to make EVEN MORE!
