anyone have experience making parade banners?

my student dance troop is going to be in our local parade and I'm trying to figure out best materials, best size, best method of suspension without breaking the bank.

Behind the cut... a photo of us before an outdoor performance last weekend. (the mosquitoes ate us alive.)

I made my outfit: the top, the pants, the panel skirt, the gloves & the hair flower. For the other dancers I made ALL of the panel skirts except the white one & the orange/red one.

So, as I struggle through ANOTHER never ending project I think it is high time I posted something. It makes me feel like I am getting somewhere with things even though for the most part I am going to spend today watching things dry... encouraging them with kind words to dry faster....

Sooooo, it's a long story* but I basically woke up one day and decided that I  just HAD to make a granny square and doily net like afghan thingy. So without any pattern or much of a plan I began crocheting like mad........

Full story under the cut..... )

*If you want the full story and live in Toronto, Ontario you should come out to Dufferin Grove Park this Sunday and see this afghan thingy in action. Below is the poster we made. Is this kind of thing allowed in this community? If not I can remove this part of the post ASAP.

Okay, it's rainy and I am avoiding doing the things I need to do today. Time for more posting I think!

I thought this might be a good place to ask this.

I'm making a stuffed toy out of wool felted fabric I knitted (knit a big rectangle, wash in hot water.) Its dark brown and I'm having a hard time finding something to mark the pattern on the fabric so I can cut it. Anybody know of a really soft, light colored pencil that might mark it? I have a dressmakers white chalk pencil, but its not marking.

Thanks!
