fantastic! You guys have really inspired me to keep on sewing and creating and to learn how to knit and crochet!
A little bit about myself: I am a 25 year old Aussie living in the USA. Back in Australia, I used to be a little craft/sew-a-holic - but after my move to the States, I was unable to sew for quite a while largely due to not having a sewing machine - but also, I was intensely homesick and lost all desire to do anything creative aside from my site. Thankfully - I have managed to overcome that!
My lovely hubby recently purchased a sewing machine for me boy, have I been having fun! I was kind of lost at first in what direction I should take in sewing but soon enough, my fascination with the Japanese culture and arts, Geisha, and my slowly growing kimono collection pointed me in the right way. I have developed a great appreciation of Japanese textiles and patterns and decided that it was to be my chosen media of choice. As a result, I recycle old kimono that are too damaged to be worn in some way (unsightly and unremovalble stains or missing sleeves etc) but still have ample fabric to play with. About 95% of my kimono fabric collection is silk, whilst the rest is cotton and perhaps a few polyester pieces.
Lately, I have been on a bag making kick, and also a cute pouch making kick using traditional patterns from a book called Omiyage. I am going to start making myself some clothing eventually, but - I have had a 3 year absence from sewing...so I am working my way back in it slowly (and unfortunately, a bit rusty and messy :[ ).
Here are some of the projects I have done so far - I've given away the pouches as gifts, and the bag making
is just experimenting and having fun. I use cotton for the lining in most of the bags and pouches and the bags are primarily made of black corduroy.
