I'm making most of my holiday gifts this year, and they're not going to be done on time. I have a three year old and a nine month old, the whole family was sick most of the month of November, and now, the weekend before Christmas, I got the flu.
I'm trying to maintain a sense of humor about it. The whole thing is approaching the scope of a comedy of errors, so at this point it's pretty easy to laugh at myself.
At any rate, I wanted to let my friends and family know that their gifts would be arriving late. Here's an e-mail that I just sent out to most of the people on my holiday gift list.

Subject: Extending the Holiday Season
Did you ever wish Christmas could be less intense and demanding, and more spread out over the dark winter months? If so, this is your year! Your holiday presents from me will be arriving fashionably late, in order to spread out the holiday cheer.
Okay, the recent concentration of illness in my family, compounded by getting the flu the weekend before Christmas does have something to do with it, but I prefer to see it as a conscious choice for extending the season.
So, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night-- I'm going to go take a much needed nap.
With Love,
Cora
