[identity profile] firinel.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
*I am not the moderator, this is not an official request or warning in anyway.

I've noticed that a lot of people are posting pictures without using lj-cut tags, and I wanted to ask that people consider slow connections/computers, low screen resolution (the size of an image can throw off someone's friendpage) and just general polite behaviour in not taking up large quanities of friendspage real estate, when posting a large picture or multiple pictures. IME, people tend to remove themselves from a community if people continiously make posts which are taxing on their friendspage in this manner, and a lower number of community members translates into less participants to give you crafty ideas, and less people to help you with any crafty problems you might have!

It occured to me that perhaps this is, in part, because some people don't know how to use lj-cut tags. I've provided both a link to the faq, as well as the excerpt from the faq that regards the usage of the lj-cut tag, behind the lj-cut tag, since its a bit lengthy.

excerpt from faq on lj-specific tags (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=7) explaining how to execute an lj-cut tag:

3. <lj-cut> ... </lj-cut>

... which can be used in a journal entry to hide part of, or all of an entry. When the entry appears in your journal or on someone's Friends page, everything after an < tag and before a closing </lj-cut> tag will be replaced by a link to the Read Comments page. The Read Comments page always displays the entire entry as well as any comments made on it. When the <lj-cut> is closed with </lj-cut>, any text placed after the closing </lj-cut> tag will also display on the journal, instead of just on the Read Comments page.

By default, the link will say "Read more", but if you want it to say something else like "Cut off here", you can write the tag as <lj-cut text="Cut off here">

If anyone is still unsure of how to do this, then I'll be willing to help where I can, and point to the appropiate channels where I cannot.

thanks a lot.
