An idea, and yarn ends request
Jan. 8th, 2004 09:18 pmTwo things, everyone! First, I thought I'd share an idea I had for making jeans more nifty. I'm going to do this as soon as I have time and money for jeans.
1. Get pair of regular jeans, cut slit on each side of pant leg however long you want.
2. Hem, punch eyelets into each side, evenly spaced.
3. Get triangular wedges of fabric (I'm going to use ties because I have a whole bunch of them), hem, punch eyelets in, too.
4. Lace the wedge thingies into the jeans with shoelaces, lace, string, whatever. Now you have bellbottom jean thingies...but they're interchangeable! If you get sick of whatever color you have in there, make new ones! And you can take the wedges out completely and just lace the two jean edges together to make regular jeans again, woo!
Anyway, second thing--I have a dream to make one of those mixed yarn scarf thingies that I've seen people wearing (and they sell ugly versions of them at Target!). Basically if you haven't seen them they're just knitted in stripes and every 5 or so rows the yarn changes to a completely different one with a weird texture or color or whatever. They're totally mismatched and that's what makes them great.
So to make myself one, I'd have to buy like 15 skeins of yarn and use next to nothing from each. Would anyone like to donate/sell/trade me some bits of yarn that are too small to make "regular" projects with? I also want to make a scarf of just different shades of green, like..regular acrylic yarn though. So if you have any yarn bits, please let me know. :)
Lastly, I'm teaching myself to crochet finally (I don't know how you people do it. Knitting is easier and less hard on my wrists :\) and even though it's hard for me, I'm excited that I can actually *do* it. There are some crochet patterns that just wouldn't look right in knitting. :)
