quick & easy tie dye

My boyfriend's little brother has to dress up as a hippie and he needs a tie dye shirt by Tuesday.
My question is..would you be able to use food coloring or koolaid to do it?
I doubt that he will wear it ever again but just as long as he has it for the one day.

Any suggestions?
