cute legwarmers!
Feb. 1st, 2004 03:07 pmhi! my first post. blah blah blah. but thought i'd share as i've gotten so much inspiration from y'all... made these lil' things last night and i'm quite happy with how they turned out...
i'm not really into the 80's-looking stretchy ones that i've seen around -- wanted something a bit warmer and little more flared at the bottom. and i wanted something that wouldn't stick weird to my pantyhose or tights. so i came up with these: fully lined fleece legwarmers!
since i wanted them to flare slightly, rather than cutting out a rectangle of fabric i cut out a trapezoid. i measured the widest part of my calf (plus a little extra room for comfort) and made that the top part of the trapezoid, and added two inches to make the bottom of the trapezoid. (don't forget to add a little extra all around for seam allowances, and an extra inch and a half or two for the elastic casing at the top!)
i used some fleece/ sweatshirty material, and a silky material for the lining inside -- put wrong sides of the fleece and lining together first and sewed just the bottom of the legwarmer; turned that inside out so that right sides facing out; basted the sides; then connected the sides of the trapezoid to make the legwarmer "tube" -- made elastic casing at the top, added some cute lace on the bottom, a little crochet ribbon at top... and voila! superwarm and sweet!
