Hi there everyone. I've been crafty lately crocheting and sewing my heart out, but while reading through posts here in the memories, I got to thinking about decorating my bedroom.

You see, I live with my parents and our house is unfinished (we only live on the first floor). Money and time permitting, we should be living upstairs soon, and that leaves me with a bedroom more than twice as big as my current one. My room right now isn't decorated in the least, and I have a mess of mix matched things I've drawn or sewn throughout that really doesn't help bring anything together.

I'll be getting an entire fresh start up there (and hardwood floors) and I'd really like one cohesive look--I'd love to start getting crafty with it as soon as I can. I can't go up there and decorate walls or anything yet, but I can start on things to go in there. Here's what I've got planned to do with the furniture so far...

(Yes, I draw these things for fun. It's not to scale, but it's pretty darn close...I lost my measurements that I took before.)

I'll even take suggestions for alternative ways to layout the room, this is all I've come up with that seems to "work."

My bed, dresser, armoir, and nightstand are a set that are stained very very dark so that they almost look black. The furniture is oversized (think asian-style sleigh bed) and if you could imagine, it absolutely overwhelms the room I'm in now. I don't have the love seat/couch yet, and the computer desk I bought at Ikea and stained to match the rest, though it doesn't fit in my room down here.

I guess since it seems like some of you genuinely enjoy thinking about these sort of decorating things, maybe you could help me out a bit. I'm at a loss for color, decorating, everything. I can sew to a certain extent, though I'm eager to continue onto more complicated things than pillows and pajama pants.

If this isn't relavent to this community, please let me know.

[edit] The little alcove with my computer desk is actually wider than I have drawn. Add about two feet on either side, and stretch out the room a bit too. I haven't been upstairs in so long I forgot how big the room actually is. [/edit]
