hemming jeans

I've browsed around the memories for several craft/diy/fashion communities and I haven't found the answer so I am sure that my question is really dumb and the answer is a lot more obvious than I am making it out to be....

But what is the best way to hem a pair of jeans that are too long?

I hate that "folded under" look. Is there a way to hem the jeans so that the bottom of the jeans are still in tact to make the altering not so obvious? Sorry if that doesn't make sense. Thanks in advance :D
