Handbag closure help

craftgrrlI recently made a handbag with a flap. I thought I had regular velcro but it is the sticky back kind. I have regular and industrial strength. Has anyone had any luck with it staying stuck to fabric?
My second question is does anyone have any suggestions for other ways to close it that involves stuff I probably already have? Also I would rather not have to rip it apart.
I will post pics after it is done and after the person who I am sending it to receives it.
