bottlecap project

After months of collecting bottlecaps, I finally have enough to cover a table. I have my design laid out perfectly. There's just one small problem, how should I attach the bottle caps? I originally wanted to pour a clear casting resin on top of it, but since I've never used it before, I didn't know if it would work well for this project. And the table doesn't have a lip on the edge, so there's also that problem. I suppose a grout would work...but such a pain! Any suggestions?
