Lampshades

craftgrrlDoes anyone have any experience with making lampshades from scratch, rather than covering one? I got a book on it from the library, but it doesn't seem to care much about safety hazards. Apparently, any kind of paper or fabric is okay, but I'm still wary. Is there any sort of fire retardant I should use, or is it really as safe and simple as the book makes it seem?
