I've wanted one of these newsies-ish hats for quite a while, but due to my abnormally large head I have a really hard time finding hats that fit. And since I'm cheap and can't follow a pattern anyway, I decided to just wing it. I'm quite thrilled about how it turned out!

Here I am modeling my hat--and no, that is not some kind of coy wink--it's my picture-taking concentration face, second in goofiness only to my knitting concentration face. Sorry about my hair--that's the remains of a ponytail.

I was surprised at how easy this was to do. Basically what I did was cut a bunch of triangles (I ended up using 11), sew them together into a circle, make a band, and adjust the band around the circle until it fit my head--pins were a great help here. The brim contains that plastic needlepoint mesh stuff and I just sewed right through it, no problem.

This one is made of felt (and some cotton/poly stuff inside the band to keep it from stretching out), but I have some tweedy stuff that I want to make one out of too, so if anyone's interested, I could take pictures as I go along when I make that one.
