So, it's summertime, the living is easy, and once again my kitchen is overrun with tiny black ants. I'm killing them left and right... my squashing finger is exhausted, and guilty.
See, I LIKE ants. I think they're smart and interesting, but I just can't have them running willy-nilly across my countertops and in my dishwasher. The thought of putting them outside is sweet and utterly humane, but the fact is that I'd have to get a swinging door installed because there are so many, and I'm not overly interested in having them get back in, either.
(Wondering if I accidently posted in the wrong community yet?)

craftgrrls come in:
Can I easily build my own ant farm? I really want these guys to have somewhere to run around that doesn't involve my cat's food dish. Has anyone ever done this before?
What could I use to sandwich the two pieces of glass together? What kind of sand would I have to use? And would they survive in there without a queen?
Any tips for my wayward antz and I?
