Car seat and steering wheel covers.
Aug. 9th, 2004 05:38 pmSo I drive an old car... Its a '67 ford falcon "Futura" station wagon.
Its green, so its name is "Old Greenie" ... but I cannot buy car seat covers for it, because they do not manufacture ones for cars like that. My car doesn't have headrests or shoulder belts, and its just a simple bench seat. And all the seat covers they sell have headrests, and are made for SUV's. (going price: around $40)
I also cannot buy steering wheel covers, the steering wheel is too big, and normal steering wheel covers won't stretch to fit that big of a steering wheel. I've bought and had to return about 3 different steering wheel covers before I just gave up. (going price: around $10)
... So what did I do?
I made my own car seat and steering wheel covers!

I used olive green flannel for the seat covers. Really fuzzy crushed velvet fur for the "racing stripes," piping, and steering wheel cover. Leather lace to hold it all on tight (the seat covers and the steering wheel cover). And two pieces of cardboard as my only means to measure it all out (since I lost my measuring tape! oops!)
How much money was it for the materials? $15. That's it.. I saved myself $35 making this myself, and its custom made! The colors I want, the fabrics I want, and it even matches! Yay!
