i have a question for all you diy businesswomen out there. i have been thinking lately about making scarves to sell. i love knitting with novelty yarns, but as i am a broke little girl i can't really afford to make anything for myself out of these. i went to a gallery showing of the works of local stitch-and-bitchers last weekend, and noticed that all the fancy scarves they had on the wall were very simple, garter stitch on large needles, and the only thing that really made them worth looking at was the quality of the yarn. i mean, anything can look good if you use really nice yarn, but i can't afford that. and they were charging insane amounts, 35-60 dollars per scarf, but the things were definitely selling. so i'm contemplating going into business for myself, but i'd like to understand my chances of actually making money here. so my questions are:

- what have you found to be the best venues for selling? a website? ebay? trying to find a local shop to consign it?
- what would be a reasonable price range for a novelty sort of scarf?
- have you had good luck with selling in the past, or am i wasting my time? what percentage of what you've tried to sell has actually sold?
