first soap attempt!
Dec. 4th, 2004 12:16 pmthanks to everyone who helped me with my post the other day regarding my first time making soap! i went at it last night and came up with pretty successful results... they're not perfect, but i've discovered that even if you mess up this stuff turns out pretty cool! i think next time i need to get some better molds, because the shapes turned out kind of, um, interesting, but anyhow...
sorry for the poor quality of my camera, i hope you can still sort of see what i'm talking about...

These were scented with a massage oil i have made from eucalyptus, hazelnut and birch essential oils. there is also some blue body glitter swirled into them. molded in a weird tupperware container and then sliced.

These were fun! Oatmeal, cinnamon, cloves and ginger, plus a liberal glob of burt's bees almond milk hand cream. at first i put in wayyy too much oatmeal and i got this weird, non-liquid mass, so i remelted it with some more soap base and it worked. they smell awesome and the hand creme gives them really creamy lather. also molded in tupperware and then sliced (rather crookedly, heh).

scented with patchouli essential oil (there is blue glitter in these, too, but you can't see it here); i also added a dollop of citrus shampoo for scent. for the pieces floating inside, i took a store-bought bar of tangerine glycerine soap, melted it a little so it was soft enough to cut, and then sliced it up and stirred it in. the patchouli smell is much stronger than the citrus, but it still smells yummy. molded in 1 cup plastic measuring cups (btw, this works awesome if you want a smooth, round bar of soap!)

this is the top and bottom of one loaf... i didn't layer when i stirred things in so they sort of settled to opposite sides, but it turned out pretty neat. scented with lavendar vanilla essential oil. the bottom half has a layer of oatmeal, and the top has a layer of raspberry mint soap chunks (i bought a bar of yardley's, chopped it up and stirred it in). i ended up cutting these into big thick chunks, they are very pure white and smell awesome.

my kitchen is a mess... but it sure smells good. :) oh, and for anyone who's interested, soap base is on sale at michael's, 2 lbs. for like $5.88!!
