Tutorial for African Bead Cuffs
Jan. 3rd, 2005 11:23 am- beads, buttons, charms, perls, whatever you think would be cool- 50ish
- wire 28 gauge (I've been using cheap stuff from HomeDepot that is used to hang pictures)
- Crochet Hook
- push a bunch of beads onto the wire (all of 'em, you can always not use some)
- Start crocheting, I've used about 4 loops and then made a tube (if you don't know how there are a lot of tutorials online, I learned how to crochet in order to make these)
- Every few loops go ahead and push a bead down to the bracelet end.
- Crochet until the band can fit around your wrist
- Close the ends by using extra wire to wire them together

On this one rather than tying the sides together I added a bead as a button
Pretty much the biggest thing that you need is imagination. Perfection kind of takes away from the look of it, so kind of go with the flow. My MIL asked me how I was planning on doing this without a pattern (she's a long time Crochet-er) and I said that I was just going to do it. There are books out there with patterns on how to Crochet with wire and add in beads, I bought one with a gift card that I got for Christmas, and will try out the patterned approach. However I must say I like the way these have come out.
Also if I had better crochet lingo, I would use it, but I don't. Pretty much these things are just free form, and sometimes the mistakes make it look cooler. Good Luck :-)
