Sugestions Please

I know this isn't craft related... but any help would be great

My husband and I have to get his.. umm our nephew something for his 9th birthday. Since Christmas is coming up and he is obsenely spoiled we are only going to get him a book and a card..

Here is the question.. We want to get him a book that is educational, maybe bit controvesial, maybe sub culture like.. Something he would never have access to other wise. After we give him the book we will tell him if he reads it and does a book report for us we will give him $10.

We don't particularly know anything about kids, or what they like or any junk like that, so any input would be helpful..
